Changelog
What we changed
Changes to the rules, the counting and the site, newest first. Rules last checked against the statutes on November 4, 2026.
Worked examples and a sample letter
Each state page now works a sample move-out through day by day, and the home page shows a sample result and a draft of the letter the $49 service would send. All of it comes from the same rules files the checker uses. This page and the About page are new too.
Your own deadlines never move later
When a date you have to act by (Florida’s 15 days to object to a claim, California’s 14 days to ask for receipts) lands on a weekend or holiday, we show the statute’s own day and note that the law may allow until the next business day. Landlord deadlines still move to the next business day.
A second read of every statute, before launch
Every rule was read again against the official statute texts. That read added each state’s own legal holidays to the counting, the Texas postmark rule (Prop. Code § 92.1041), and the Illinois amendment (P.A. 103-224) on tenants who give no address.
Chicago held back
Chicago’s ordinance adds its own deposit rules. They are written up but switched off until they are checked line by line against the ordinance text. Illinois results carry a note instead.
First version
The checker opened for California, Florida, Illinois, New York and Texas.
